About
our company
At Paws and Reflect, our mission is to build lasting relationships between dogs and their owners through personalized, results-driven training. We believe every dog is capable of growth, and every owner deserves clear, honest guidance to help their dog thrive, not just at home, but in the real world.
Founded in 2024 by Hector Gonzalez, Paws and Reflect was created with a larger purpose: to keep more dogs in homes and out of shelters. By educating owners and addressing behavioral issues early—before they escalate—we aim to reduce the number of dogs surrendered, rehomed, or unnecessarily euthanized.
Hector brings years of hands-on experience and advanced training to every session. He has studied under one of the world’s leading dog trainers, Jas Leverette, founder of Cali K9® and star of Netflix’s Canine Intervention. That mentorship shaped Hector’s balanced training philosophy, where compassion meets structure, and obedience is built on trust and communication.
At Paws and Reflect, we customize every training plan to match your dog’s needs and your lifestyle. Whether you're raising a puppy, dealing with reactivity or aggression, or looking for group training to boost your dog’s confidence, we're here to help you build the calm, respectful, and connected relationship you’ve always wanted with your dog
The 5 Standards
We Live By
-
Lifestyle
How you live with your dog is the most important part of training! Lifestyle is the foundation everything else sits on. Dogs need structure, leadership, and consistency every single day. If they don’t know the rules, or if the rules change depending on who’s home, they get confused. That confusion turns into stress, and stress turns into behaviorial problems. It’s not just about obedience, it’s about what your dog’s life looks like inside and outside of your home, how they eat, sleep, walk, and interact with you. When we clean up the lifestyle, we clean up a lot of the behavior.
-
Focus
Why is Focus important ? If your dog can’t focus on you, they can’t listen to you. I’m not just talking about commands. I’m talking about walking down the street and your dog loses their mind over a rabbit, another dog, or a kid on a skateboard. When they’re focused on everything but you, they’re reacting based on instinct, not direction and that puts them and others at risk. Focus is about teaching your dog to check in with you first. You become the most important thing in the world, and that keeps them safe, calm, and in control.
-
Impulse Control
Dogs aren’t born knowing how to make good choices—they learn what works. If lunging, barking, or guarding food gets results, they’ll keep doing it. Without impulse control, dogs make dangerous decisions—running into traffic, biting, or escalating conflict. These behaviors often lead to injuries, broken trust, or even euthanasia. In fact, over 390,000 dogs are euthanized every year due to preventable behavior issues. Teaching impulse control helps your dog stop, think, and respond calmly—even when triggered. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about keeping your dog safe and giving them the tools to succeed.
-
Body Language
Dogs speak through body language first, before they bark, before they growl, they show you what they are feeling. Most people miss it. The hackles, the tail tuck, the lip lick, these are a few of many signs of when a dog is uncomfortable or stressed. If you don’t catch that, things escalate. Understanding your dog’s body language helps you prevent problems before they start. And when you learn how to speak their language, your communication gets clearer, your relationship gets stronger, and the trust builds naturally.
-
Obedience
Obedience isn’t about showing off tricks. It’s about building clear communication and mutual respect. When I ask a dog to sit, come, or stay, it’s not just to follow a command. It’s a way to bring structure into their world and help them make better choices. Obedience gives your dog something to focus on, especially when faced with over stimulation. It brings balance when things get chaotic. While obedience might not be the number one most important part of training, it’s a reliable tool to help your dog reset, refocus, and stay on the right path. Without obedience, you wouldn’t have a well balanced dog.
